Joint inflammation in Ayurveda

Inflammatory joint disorder most often is caused by a chronic autoimmune condition. Usually, it will affect more than just the joints as it also affects the soft tissues of the body. The immune system mistakes its own tissues as an invader.

Inflammatory joint disorder slowly deteriorates the soft tissue lining of the joints, which causes painful swelling that eventually results in bone erosion and severe joint deformity. Inflammation is what causes tissue damage throughout the body. In some people, the condition damages many parts of the body, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, and blood vessels.

AN AYURVEDIC DISORDER CALLED AMAVATA

Ayurveda is very familiar with Inflammatory Joint Disorder which is known as Amavata and offers a unique approach toward relieving the symptoms.

Ayurveda sees the root cause as improper digestion, which begins as indigestion, reduced appetite, and inflammation. The improperly digested foods produce toxins which build up and spread beyond the digestive system to all areas of the body. Once these toxins, which Ayurveda calls amavata, reach the small joints of the hands and feet, the condition becomes especially difficult to manage.

EARLY SYMPTOMS OF AMAVATA

  • Body aches
  • Reduced appetite
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty moving; feeling of heaviness.
  • Fever
  • Indigestion
  • Joint swelling

ADVANCED SYMPTOMS OF AMAVATA

Painful swelling in the joints of the hands, feet, neck, ankles, knees, hips and tailbone

Sharp and stinging pain in the joints

Ayurveda’s unique protocol to relieving and managing requires correcting digestion, reducing inflammation, and removing the deep-rooted toxins known as ama vata. A successful Ayurvedic treatment plan does take time and requires the experience of an Ayurvedic practitioner, as well as the dedication of the patient to follow the Ayurvedic protocol. If followed the result can be a significant reduction of symptoms.
